The domestic equity benchmarks traded with decent losses in the mid- afternoon trade. The Nifty traded below the 24,300 level. Bank shares advanced after declining for previous trading session. At 14:28 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex tanked 361.08 points or 0.46% to 77,790.37. The Nifty 50 index fell 78.65 points or 0.32% to 24,255.65. The broader market outperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.57% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index rose 0.27%. The market breadth was positive. On the BSE, 2,171 shares rose and 1,921 shares fell. A total of 262 shares were unchanged. Parliament Monsoon Session 2026 begins today: The Monsoon Session of Parliament began on a stormy note on Monday, with proceedings in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha adjourned till noon after Opposition members disrupted the Houses over a range of issues. In the Lok Sabha, Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House shortly after Question Hour began as Opposition MPs raised slogans and entered the Well of the House. The House had earlier paid tributes to former Members of Parliament Nadendla Bhaskara Rao, Omwati Devi, Sudhangshu Seal, Maj Gen B C Khanduri (Retd), K P Dhanapalan and Pyare Lal Sankhwar. The Speaker also paid homage to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, the Father Amir of Qatar. The Rajya Sabha also witnessed disruptions and was adjourned till 2 pm. Ahead of the session, Congress and other INDIA bloc parties said they would press the government on issues including alleged irregularities in Ram Mandir donations, repeated examination paper leaks, the ethanol-blending policy and other public concerns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, meanwhile, expressed hope for a productive session and urged all parties to engage in constructive discussions on issues of national importance. The Monsoon Session, scheduled to run from 20 July to 13 August 2026, will have 19 sittings and is expected to consider several key government Bills, while the Opposition is preparing to challenge the Centre on a range of political and policy issues. Economy: India's forex reserves jumped $964 million to $675.157 billion in the week ended July 10, the Reserve Bank said. Foreign currency assets, a major component of the reserves, increased by $930 million to $546.508 billion, the central bank's data showed. The value of gold reserves increased by $24 million to $105.223 billion during the week, the RBI said. The Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) were up by $3 million at $18.626 billion, the apex bank said. India's reserve position with the IMF also increased by $7 million to $4.793 billion at the end of the reporting week, according to the RBI's data. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Bank index shed 0.82% to 58,041.55. The index added 1.63% in the past trading session. Axis Bank (down 5.16%), HDFC Bank (down 4.8%), AU Small Finance Bank (down 3.49%), Yes Bank (down 2.41%) and Kotak Mahindra Bank (down 1.97%) declined. On the other hand, Punjab National Bank (up 5.37%) ,Union Bank of India (up 4.81%) and Bank of Baroda (up 3.36%) added. Numbers to Track: The yield on India's 10-year benchmark federal paper rose 0.19% to 6.793 compared with the previous session close of 6.780. In the foreign exchange market, the rupee edged lower against the dollar. The partially convertible rupee was hovering at 96.3800 compared with its close of 96.3050 during the previous trading session. MCX Gold futures for 5 August 2026 settlement rose 0.65% to Rs 1,41,805. The US Dollar Index (DXY), which tracks the greenback's value against a basket of currencies, was shed 0.05% to 100.72. The United States 10-year bond yield added 0.29% to 4.554. In the commodities market, Brent crude for September 2026 settlement shed 3 cents or 0.03% to $88.07 a barrel. Stocks in Spotlight: Dynamic Cables surged 9.34% after the company's consolidated net profit jumped 37.09% to Rs 24.95 crore in Q1 FY27, compared with Rs 18.20 crore in Q1 FY26. Revenue from operations increased 33.23% YoY to Rs 349.10 crore, driven by strong demand from the renewable energy, private utilities and international markets. RBL Bank rose 1.15% after its standalone net profit surged 26.64% YoY to Rs 253.70 crore in Q1 FY27 as against Rs 200.33 crore posted in Q1 FY26.
